The Samoa Police Women's Sevens Rugby Team was the lucky recipient of the new rugby sports gear donated by the Nafanua NSW Women's Team that toured our islands last week.
The women's rugby team from NSW Australia had always wanted to lend a hand wherever they could in developing women's rugby on our shores and this was their way of showing their support.
Australian High Commissioner to Samoa, Her Excellency Sara Moriarty along with the High-Performance Unit General Manager Zane Hilton, presented the gift to the Samoa Police Women's Sevens Rugby Team who will be participating in the Pacific Nations Military and Police Rugby Tournament 2018 (PACMIL) in Canberra from 12-13 October.
H.E Sara Moriarty in her keynote speech acknowledged that the primary objective of the tournament is to foster a spirit of good will, healthy competition and greater understanding between the Pacific nations through rugby.
"This is a great example of the spirit of Rugby. The Nafanua NSW Women's Team presented the SRU with this gift last week and their generosity fulfills a dream for one of our teams representing not only Samoa but also our Police force." Zane Hilton-General Manager, High-Performance Unit.
Apart from Samoa and Australia, the teams participating in the tournament are from militaries/ police services from New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and the Cook Islands
The presentation was done on Tuesday 2nd October 2018 at the HPU Headquarters-Tuanaimato.
